REGISTRATION
  • What is your registration policy?
    The registration fee includes full conference fee, lunch most days, and training course material.  The registration fee does not cover travel and accommodation costs or incidentals.  All fees are listed in Canadian dollars.  Once registration is received, registration fees are non-refundable.  Substitutions are accepted through requests made in writing.  The Bioinformatics Platform reserves the right to cancel courses due to insufficient registration.  In the event of a cancellation, participants will be notified and full fees refunded.  We strongly encourage you to call if you have any questions about the course or if you would like to confirm the status of the course before making final travel plans.

  •  When is the registration deadline?
    Participants are encouraged to registere a minimum of six weeks prior to the advertised start of a course.  This will ensure that you receive confirmation and course information in time, as well as have enough time to read through pre-reading material.
  • When will I receive confirmation?
    Participants will be wait listed until receipt of BOTH registration form and payment (cheque or money order).  Confirmations will be provided via email.
  • In the event of a course cancellation what happens?
    The Bioinformatics Platform reserves the right to cancel courses.  In the event of a cancellation, participants will be notified and full fees refunded.  Contact training@gcbioinformatics.ca if you have any questions about the course or if you would like to confirm the status of the course before making travel plans.  The Bioinformatics Platform is not liable for any expenses other than course registration fees.

REGISTRATION FEES
  • Are registration fees in Canadian dollars (CAD)?
    Yes, all fees are listed in Canadian dollars.  Please ensure your payment in Canadian funds.  Any registration fee refunds are also in CDN.
  • Are taxes included in the registration fee?
    No. GST in not charged for ACGC courses.
  • Do students receive a discounted registration fee?
    Though students are welcome to attend the ACGC, they do not receive a discounted registration fee. There are no other discounts or sponsorships for this course.
  • How do I pay for the course?
    The Bioinformatics Platform accepts payments via cheques and money orders (payable to University of Calgary), but please keep in mind that registrations will not be processed until both registration and payment is received.
  • What does the registration fee include?

  • Can I cancel my registration?
    Sorry, once registered, course fees are non-refundable. In the event of your cancellation you are encouraged to transfer registration to another member of your team.  Please submit transfer information in writing including both original and substitute registration information.

  • What do you do with the personal information collected from the registration form?
    Your personal information is for the exclusive use of the Bioinformatics Platform as a means to contact you about registered and upcoming courses and services, feedback and follow surveys and needs assessments.
COURSE and TECHNICAL
  • How many participants are accepted to attend the ACGC?
    Class size is dependent on lab size. Typically, class size is limited to 30 people.
  • What technology is used?
    Participants will be introduced to the following technologies:

    • Programming to manipulate sequences
    • Regular expressions
    • Data integration
    • BioMoby (web services)
    • Magpie
    • Bluejay

  • Can I attend if I have limited programming experience?
    Yes! The course does not assume any prior programming experience.  However, in order to make the most of your time at the ACGC, it is strongly recommended that you complete all pre-readings found on the website: www.gcbioinformatics.ca/training.
  • Are after-hours tutorials provided?
    Where available open lab time will be provided to ACGC participants to apply the skills and information learned.
  • Who are the instructors?
    The instructors for the course are listed on the Agenda page, although the instructors indicated may be subject to change without notice.
TRAVEL AND LODGING
  • How do I arrange my travel and lodging?
    Information will be provided within your confirmation notice.  In addition, current information will be updated on the course Web site at http://www.gcbioinformatics.ca/training. Please note that all travel and lodging arrangements are the responsibility of participants.
